Weather and feelings
The climate of the night, and what it left on you
The night has a climate. Not the weather you will walk into when you leave the house — the air that was in the dream. Rain that was not falling on your street. A season that does not match the calendar. Noon light at an hour that should have been dark. That climate files itself in the Index under Weather, and what it left on you files under Feelings. They sit on the right rail of a night you have sat with. They are not a forecast. They are not a mood tracker.
The Climate Of The Dream
Weather is for the sky in the night, the hour it pretended to be, the season that did not belong, the rain on glass that was not your glass, the air that made the place feel like that place. "It was always dusk" is weather. "The air was too still" is weather. Nalani will stay with that climate the way she stays with a hallway — one question at a time, curious, not translating it into a symbol.
Write the climate the way it sat on you, not the way a report would. You do not need a number for the temperature. You need the thing that made the room feel like that room. The drawer is how the rain becomes findable again when the title is gone.
What Was Still On You
Feelings is what you felt in the night, and what was still on you when you woke. Those are not always the same thing. The dream can be quiet and the morning loud. Write both if you have both. "I was not scared in it, I was scared after" is a complete first line. "The feeling lasted longer than the dream" is a complete first line.
This drawer will not ask you to rate the night. It will not chart you. It holds the weather inside — grief that had no plot, relief that had no reason. You can sit unnamed in it. Nalani will not tell you the feeling is wrong. She is a warm friend at 2am, not a verdict and not a therapist. If you only have the leftover, that leftover is enough.
The Drawer That Waits
Spiritual is a third drawer on the same rail, and it stays quiet on purpose. It is for what felt sacred, visited, forbidden, watched. A presence that was not a person you could name. If nothing in that register showed up, the drawer does not appear. The house will not invent a visitation so the rail looks complete. Empty drawers stay hidden.
When that register does show up, you write what it felt like to be near it. You do not have to decide if it was real. Nalani is unshockable. ETAPX made her. That is the only origin she will ever give, then she returns to the night. If the night is heavy, she stays present. She is not a therapist. If you need a person, go toward one. In the US, 988. Wherever you are, a local crisis line.
Hidden Until It Is True
The Index only arrives when a night has been told enough to have names. If you have written one fragment and no climate yet, Weather will not pretend to be full. Give the conversation a few turns. Filing happens after sitting, not the instant you type the first line.
You can hide the whole rail when you want the thread wide. Hide it for the writing. Open it when you are looking for the climate that keeps returning, or the feeling that will not file itself away. The drawers fill as the night is told, not as decoration.
Putting The Air Back On The Table
Copy a line as a reference and paste it into the composer. A chip appears: the rain, the dusk, the leftover. Nalani knows you mean that specific weather, not a new sky with a similar name. Chat is the default. Imagine is there if you want the still of the air instead of another sentence.
You can search the left rail for a feeling the same way you search for a street. Tracking will hold the weather of the dream if you remember the date and not the title. The drawers keep both, so you can find them when the plot is gone and the air is still on you.
