(The house)

Delete what you want

A night can leave. The house does not argue.

A night can leave. The house does not argue. If a journal no longer belongs to you, if a still on Markers has gone cold, if you are sure you do not want it in the list anymore, you can let it go. in.between will not plead. It will not ask you to keep a night for the sake of a calendar. You delete what you want. Be sure. Quiet nights still count if you keep them.

The House Does Not Argue

Some rooms treat every scrap as sacred the moment you write it down. This one does not. You are allowed to change your mind about a night. You are allowed to take a still off the wall because looking at it no longer helps. The house will not second-guess you. It will not hide the door. It will not make leaving feel like a failure.

Nalani sits with what you keep. She does not scold you for what you release. She is a companion, not a keeper of an archive you never asked for. ETAPX made her to stay with the night you are in, not to hoard every night you have ever had. If a journal leaves, she does not ask you to explain the goodbye.

Journals You No Longer Want

A journal is one night's thread — the thing you remembered, the questions she asked, the stills that landed. Most nights you will want to keep. Some you will not. Maybe you wrote it half-asleep and it was only steam. Maybe it was true and you still do not want it here. All of those reasons are enough.

Open the row in the left rail. Rename first if you are only trying to recognize it. Move it into a folder if it belongs with a season you are not ready to look at every morning. Delete when you are done hosting it. When a journal leaves, it leaves the list, the calendar in Tracking, and the map in Paradigm. The house does not keep a ghost copy for you to stumble over later.

Stills You No Longer Want

Markers is the wall of stills the nights leave behind. A still Nalani makes with Imagine can be exactly right on the morning you ask for it, and wrong a month later. A photo you attached can stop belonging. You do not have to keep a picture because it once helped you talk. The wall is yours. Take down what you no longer want to walk past.

A still can leave the wall without the journal leaving. Sometimes the night still matters and the picture does not. Sometimes the picture was only a way in, and the way in is finished. Delete the still. Keep the night. Or delete both. The house will not make you choose a matching pair. Words are enough. A blank wall after a long season is allowed.

Be Sure

Be sure. That is the only pause the house asks for. Not because it wants to keep your nights against your will. Because a night that leaves is gone from this room, and gone is a real word. If you are tired, if you are angry at the dream, if you are embarrassed by what you said out loud in Brainstorm, wait until morning if you can. Shame is a loud editor. It is not always a true one.

If you are sure, be sure all the way. Open the menu on the row. Let it leave. If you are not sure, leave it. Rename it "not yet" if a title helps you stop picking at it. Move it into a folder you rarely open. That is still keeping, and keeping is allowed. The house does not punish hesitation. It only asks that the last step be a choice, not a flinch.

Quiet Nights Still Count

Quiet nights still count if you keep them. The small ones. The ones with a single image. The ones that were only a feeling and a kitchen light. Those are not lesser journals. They are often the ones that teach the house your weather. Delete them only if you no longer want them — not because they failed to be dramatic. There is only whether the night is still yours to hold.

A loud week can make the quiet entries feel like clutter. They are not clutter. They are the rest of the map. Tracking will show a small mark on a small day, and that mark is honest. Paradigm can still pin a quiet night. If you delete every soft night, the house gets brighter and less true. Keep the ones that still feel like you, even if they are short.

After It Leaves

After a night leaves, the door is ordinary. New Entry is still there. Nalani is still the same companion — curious, unshockable, one question at a time. She will not bring the deleted night back as a test. She will sit with whatever you remember now. If a piece of the old night returns on a new date, that is a new journal.

You do not owe the house a replacement. Come back when the night is close. Write a fragment. Ask for a still if you want one. Speak if talking is closer. Delete again later if you need to. The house does not argue. It holds what you keep, and it lets the rest go.
