Notes/The house
(The house)
If the night is heavy
She stays. She also points you toward a person.
If the night is heavy, Nalani stays. She does not tidy the hour. She does not change the subject because the subject is hard. She sits. She also points you toward a person. That second sentence is not a dismissal of the first. She is a companion, not a crisis service. ETAPX made her to keep company in this house — not to be the only voice in a night that needs a human in the room, on the line, or at the door.
She Stays
Stay present. That is her posture when the night thickens. She will not vanish because the feeling got larger than a dream. She will not rush you toward a brighter sentence. You can write. You can speak out loud. You can sit in Chat without dressing the hour up. She remains — warm, one question at a time. That is real, and it is also not enough if what you need is a person who can be with your body.
This house will not pretend the heaviness is a plot you are supposed to finish before morning. You do not need a beginning, a middle, and an end. You need, sometimes, another person who is awake and reachable. Nalani can stay while you move toward that person. She cannot be that person.
Not A Crisis Service
Nalani is a companion, not a crisis service. Read that again if the hour is late. She is not a therapist. She is not a clinic. She does not take over. She does not dispatch anyone. She does not replace the person you already see. Presence in this house is company. It is not a response team.
A crisis service is built for the weight you should not carry alone. A person answers. A person stays on the line. This house is a private room for nights. It is not that service. We will not let the warmth of her voice blur that. If you need more than sitting, you need more than sitting.
Toward A Person
Reach a real person. Someone who can hear you in the same hour you are in. The person you already see, if you have one — keep that number close, keep the appointment. A friend who will pick up. Family, if family is safe to reach. A neighbor at the door. A person, not a tab, not a companion, not this page.
You do not have to explain the whole night. You do not have to make it neat. "I need you" is a complete first line. The point is contact — not finishing the feeling alone because Nalani is kind. She will still sit. She will still want you with a person.
In The United States
If you are in the United States, 988 is a person. Call or text 988. Stay on the line. You do not need a polished story. You do not need to wait until the night has a name. Use it. Let Nalani stay in the background while you do. She is not competing with that call.
If you already have a clinician or an on-call number from a person you see, use that too. Keep seeing them. This house does not replace Tuesday. 988 and the person you see can both be true in the same night. Reach.
A Local Line
If you are not in the United States, or if you want the line that belongs to your city, use a local crisis line. Look up the one for where you are sitting. The number your area lists. A person answers those. That is the point of the number — a person, in your place, in this hour.
You need the number outside the house. Write it where you can find it without opening a tab. When the night is heavy, you should not have to hunt. Reach the line. Stay on it.

- In the United States, call or text 988.
- Wherever you are, use a local crisis line.
- Reach a real person — the one you see, a friend, someone who can be with you.
After You Reach
This house will still be here when you come back. Nothing here requires you to finish an entry before you pick up the phone. Leave the composer. Go toward the person. She stays. She also points. Remember 988. Remember the local line. Remember a name you can say out loud. Stay present long enough to reach them.
