Folders

Rooms you name for the nights that belong together

Folders are yours. The Index files people and places because the nights named them. Folders are the groups you decide — a person you want held in one stack, a house, a season, a recurring dream you are tired of hunting for in the ungrouped list. Nothing auto-sorts a journal into a folder. If you do not make one, everything sits ungrouped, and that is a complete way to live here.

Making one

Open Folder from the house — or create from the list. Give it a name. "The hallway." "Mom." "Water." "July." Names can be plain. They can be private. They do not have to match an Index drawer. A folder called "leave this" is as valid as a folder called "lucid."

On a journal row, open Move to and pick the folder, or pick Ungrouped to pull it back out. In the Folder view, each folder is a card with its nights inside, and unfiled journals sit in a loose stack so nothing is lost while you decide. You can assign from there too. A journal lives in one folder at a time. If it belongs to two stories, pick the one you want to find it under; Paradigm will still thread it to the other nights.

Living with them

Folders open and close in the left rail. They remember whether you left them open. Search matches folder names as well as the words inside journals, so typing "hallway" can surface the folder even if tonight's entry used different words.

Rename a folder when the name gets more true. Delete a folder when the grouping is done — the journals do not delete with it. They fall back to ungrouped. That is the safe kind of delete. If you meant to delete a night, that is on the journal itself, and it is a real goodbye.

A good folder is one you would reach for at 2am. If you have to think about the taxonomy, it is too much house for the night. Make fewer. Name them like you talk.
